one of the ideas I am working on for kind of heroic martial arts.

chi

maximum chi is spirit attribute

chi used for a power is not available for other uses such as willpower checks

you can have 1 chi power active and not count to multiple actions, for each chi power maintained past the 1st counts as actions for multi actions

chi powers

powers do not require a skill to activate, but may require a skill to use.

May be maintained unless described otherwise.

each power allows you to use chi to enhance or reduce an effect.

some chi powers require other powers to use.

*exclusive* designates that no other skills, powers, or spells may be maintained, used, or activated the round this power is used, the char can move if movement doesn't require tests.

chi strike

you can add up to your chi to your unarmed attack skill

chi weapon strike

requires: chi strike

you can add up to your chi to your melee attack skill

chi attack

you can add up to your chi to your unarmed damage

chi weapon attack

requires: chi attack

you can add up to your chi to your melee damage with an unenhanced melee weapon.

chi distance strike *exclusive*

requires: chi weapon strike and chi weapon attack

you may use your unarmed <martial arts> skill to make 1 ranged attack

there is no point blank range mod other ranged attack mods count

short 0 - chi

medium chi - chi*2

long chi*2 - chi*3

damage: chi

chi avoidance

you can add up to your chi to dodge

chi defense

you can add up to your chi to your melee parry skill

chi cloak

up to your chi is counted as a penalty to someone perceiving you

chi detection *exclusive*

will sense anything that has an active spirit attribute people/creatures with chi, magick, psychic skills or powers, and items enhanced with them.

chi speed

you can add up to your chi to your base move before any other speed modifiers.

chi move

you can move on surfaces that would normally not be able to support your weight such as water or that you would not be able to stand on such as a wall. you are able to move up to your chi in meters on these surfaces. this can be combined with normal movement total distance can not exceed move type. while using this power ask terrain modifiers are reduced by two levels. difficulty for unable to support is vary difficult. for unable to stand on is heroic

the list of powers is not complete yet.

have not really thought of a good cp cost.

would need a trainer to learn.

the idea needs refining

Sounds interesting.

I wasn't sure from the reading, was Chi intended to be a pool of points, or another die code?

If its a point pool, will each use give a +1/point modifier when applied to something else? When would these refresh - every round, or are they consumed until rested?

If this is a die code, it might be simpler to just use the Spirit attribute, without figuring "Chi" (as it looks like they should always match, if I understand you) - or just call Spirit "Chi" instead, lending some flavor to the setting. As a modifier, whole dice can be really overpowering. I did something similar in one of my recent settings, but I put in some big disadvantages to offset the use of these powers - so you might want to think of a balancing factor if this is what you have in mind.

the naming is odd just as a flavor.

Seems pretty cool. I've been the idea of coming up with a similar genre game in the back of my head.

So is this a wuxia type of game (magical martial arts) or more of a reality type of martial arts? For example, Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon is considered Wuxia because they fly around trees and buildings which is obviously not realistic. Ip Man would be in the latter category because although embellished, none of the characters are doing anything supernatural or superhuman.

steampunk, but you can have odd travelers.

working on magic users and psychics also.

all three would interact in different ways. still trying to work things out.

the char has 5D Spirit

uses 2D of spirit for chi strike

uses 2D of spirit for chi attack

he makes an unarmed attack with -1D for MAP +2D for chi strike and gets +2D to damage if he hits. how ever all skills based off of spirit are at a -4D because his spirit is being used for something else. so if someone hit him with an attack later in the round that required a willpower check he would be at a -4D +MAP penalty if applicable.
