Are we going with only the Basic Rules, or Advanced as well? I've not played these in a LONG time, so... I'd prefer we keep it the basic, then perhaps move to the advanced in a 2nd playtest?

If I understand correctly, the main difference in basic and advanced is advanced has heroes? Id somewhat planned to have heroes from the get go (aka your D6 charries), but we can have no heroes in the first round if we like

I'm down with using advanced then. I figured considering your original request for d6 space character as well that it might be the case. Also, I agree with you, it's a little odd how they integrate the two systems. I need to review it much more closely to comment further.

As best I can tell, when building a unit

1 stat point = 1 point

1 skill point = 1 point

1 move point = 1 point

Also why would anyone ever buy armor if 10 pts gets +1 ST, -1 DX and 1 point gets +1 ST?

I suppose it's just the fact that you are buying in addition to possibly (key word) maxing out the stat. I think they should have included a maximum TOTAL number of starting stat points, based upon a racial / species template of some form or another. Then, you'd be much more interested in upping things "after" meeting that TOTAL stat limit. I'm still re-reading the rules (even as I type this). I don't remember these being as detailed as they are.

If you want , we could just run through a few turns with what I've sent you already as a squad, just to clean out the cobwebs. Something we could just restart 'for realsies' once we are all satisfied we got this nailed down. In particular, you'll want to be sure you have an EASY method of updating an online map or spreadsheet as you've already concocted.

The current method is as follows, type in 'a1s' or whatever in the square a unit is moving to, for 'member 1 of unit a, facing south' (make sure you enter the actual direction its facing) and delete the old representation of the unit

I appear to have edit access now on the document. I will place my men on the RED side (as red is more evil then blue, contrary to Lucas' mixed standardizations of laser color).

or G.I. JOE for that matter (god I loved that show!! still do)

One question regarding firing arc on the grid square formatted map. I assume we can fire into the square immediately in front of our facing, as well as forward right, and forward left ; as well as down that ARC of fire up to our maximum distance for a given weapon. I assume that to be the equivalent of the 90"deg arc of forward fire in the rules? Please confirm.

Ok. I've placed my figs on the map. I put a small legend at bottom. If anyone wishes to review my horribly rushed squadron stats they can be found here. Yes, it's a cheese-ball crew of undead misfits. I was inspired by the many undead space marine troopers I found online.

I suggest for this dry run of a few rounds, we forgo "Heroes". As you can see I have not written one up yet. I think we'll have enough to iron out lining up and sniping one another for the time being to worry about the "Heroes". At least for the dry run.

I may have misinterpreted the rules, but I thought you were limited to 10 guys, of which 2 could be specialists and 1 a commander, and the other 7 mundane?
