Episode I: The Heart of the Beast (IC)

Recommended Posts

Rashk shook Voidstar the Farghul's offered hand. He held up the datapad he had been reading. "It is said that trust is something always earned, never found. That being told and believing that another is trustworthy is the very uttermost height of foolishness and peril; that simply because one is trusted by another may not mean that the same individual will be trustworthy to you. I look forward to earning your trust, Ral Voidstar. I cannot offer any guarantees that your days will be any less shaky, but at least you'll have someone to perhaps steady you during the shaking."

Tosh is a bit dismayed to notice that the Farghul seems to be establishing a quick friendship with the Bothan.

Furballs, he thinks.

As the Bothan reaches out to shake hands, Tosh attempts to listen in to the conversation a bit more closely.

(( Hope it's okay to go ahead and make a Perception roll (3D+2) ))

2 + 5 + 5 (+2) = 14

"So, were are we to go after we dock?" Ral says after the handshake."I'm getting ahead of myself again. Why are you here? and what exactly am I helping with?"

((Will roll

5+6+2=13

Sorry didn't notice it was an opposed check, I'll pay more attention in the future. So if ya want to make any Ret-cons...))

"Business, if the climate is right," replies Tosh. "Although I must admit, my first impressions aren't very promising. I think I overheard that you have also been brought here for business?"

Xadius nods. "Sort of. I am in the process of designing a video game. Mostly I am looking for inspiration and an idea on how an Imperial world is run. Since this is the only imperial run world in the sector, here I am. I thought Imperial Mining Ltd. might be a good place to look into. I have some ideas, but I'm not sure about any of them yet."

"Perhaps some of the people you seek may have answers to some of the questions I have as well. I'm here trying to find someone. A friend of a friend of my clan. But I need to learn some things first. Some things you had questions about when you first approached me, in fact. We'll need to get our bearings. I've heard this place can get a little rough..."

Voidstar nod "From what I've seen and heard so far I cave believe it. Concerning bearings of interest we might be able to get something if we find the Cantina that the important frequent, hope you don't mind some drinks?"

"First though I should get a Com. my last employ didn't allow personal calls." Ral will pause for a moment "Though 'links here might be bugged to the Imp net."

((I've noticed that we don't have comlinks, unless it's assumed.))

"Ah. Sounds interesting," replies Tosh, who is starting to become concerned that he might be the only one aboard the freighter with criminal intentions. If he's to establish contacts, that just won't do at all.

Of course, he could always tag along to see what this Imperial Mining Ltd. might hold...couldn't hurt to have someone else there as a distraction if the blasters start singing...

"Tell me, sir...would you mind if I joined you in visiting the mining operation? I have a feeling there might be some interesting items there for my business endeavors."

Xadius smiles, "Absolutely. I would enjoy the company." His thoughts process at a furious rate. Having some one with a legit reason to be on the planet will help his cover, and if the energy starts flying, well there will be a target while he gets out of there.

The view outside the windows suddenly goes grey as the ship breaks through the overcast skies. The flight path circles to the south of the city and out over the sea. As the Captain banks the ship on final approach you can see the city of Tekar sprawled out below.

Tekar_City_Map.jpg

The Rood Rambler settles into her docking pad with a low thud followed by a hiss of her hydraulics. Captain Cortain comes over the intercom again. "Customs will want us all to assemble outside the ship for a quick shakedown. Don't do or say nothin' foolish to the customs officer. I'd rather not get the ship impounded."

Anyone looking out the starboard viewport will see a uniformed human approaching, tapping away at a datapad followed by two pairs of Imperial Army Troopers.

Rashk gathers his belongings, making sure that his modified motion sensor array and infrared macrobinoculars are well concealed in his luggage (using Search to best hide the gear* - 4D+1 for 4, 2, 4, 6 = 17), and heads for the ramp. He loiters there, playing the odds that the Rodian might be smuggling something. He then stands on the far side of the Rodian, so that the Imperials will presumably go through the Rodian's possessions first.

While he hates playing the Imperials xenophobic species profiling against them, he realizes that one must use every conceivable tool in their toolkit sometimes. He makes eye contact with Ral, silently urging him to stand nearby.

((*I know there is a Hide skill, but was thinking that was more for hiding yourself than for concealing stuff in your luggage...))

((*I know there is a Hide skill, but was thinking that was more for hiding yourself than for concealing stuff in your luggage...))

((Actually, the Hide skill is specifically for the purpose of hiding objects on your person. So, please reroll that as a Hide check, Lee. Thanks. If anyone else would like to conceal objects on their person, please make a Hide check, as well. Janus, Ral's Hide roll of 3 to conceal his holdout blaster still stands unless another PC wishes to point out the weapon obviously sticking out from his sleeve. LOL))

"With our luck, any species covered in fur or scales..." Rashk says quietly.

Glancing over at his new comrade, he says softly "That blaster probably won't go over so well either."

"ha, ha, yea... huh" Ral looks at his obvious blaster after his friend points it out. "Thanks."

((Hide roll 3D+1

2+6+4+1 =13))

Ral will in turn look at Rashk for any obvious weapons.

((Search 3D+1

6+6+4+1+1=18

good Wild re-roll in italics))

Xadius smiles, "Absolutely. I would enjoy the company."

"Well, sir, I look forward to it," nods Tosh. "I am very pleased to have made your acquaintance."

Now, he thinks, I just have to figure out what in the galaxy this fellow is.

(( Alien Species (Knowledge) roll (3D): 6 + 4 + 6 + 1 = 17 ))

Tosh pauses to listen to the captain's announcement.

"Ah, yes, we're finally here," he says. "I must check my computer once more to make sure my affairs are in order."

Tosh double-checks to ensure that all safety measures have been taken to conceal his arms inventory database, tucking away his hold-out blaster as he works.

(( Perception roll (3D+2): 3 + 5 + 3 (+2) = 13 (let me know if I should make a second roll, since I kind of did two actions there...) ))

Tosh then moves to stand and wait for the customs inspection. Should go just fine...

Xadius puts his computer in its cary bag and grabs his spacers chest with all of his items in it. Slinging the bag on a shoulder and carying his chest he figures the first thing he will want to do is find a room for his stay while he is here. Then a copy of the local laws. No point in getting nabbed over something that can be easily avoided.

Thuag watches as the others gather their belongings and wait patiently for the door to open. He makes no attempt to hide his weaponry and walks out the door with them in plain sight. As he sees the officer he stands at attention in front of the vehicle ready for his inspection.

((Tosh has heard of the Falleen species before. Falleen are a reptilian species, known for their charisma and persuasion skills. He also knows that their homeworld is not too far away from Rodia.

No worries on the second action, you have enough time to perform those without having to worry about the multi-action penalty.))

Captain Cortain meets Thuag and the rest of the passengers at the boarding ramp. "I hate this part." With datapad in hand and a blaster pistol strapped to his hip, the Captain works the controls to the entry ramp.

The smell of ion exhaust mixed in with the salty sea air fills your nostrils as you march down the boarding ramp. In front of the ship, an Imperial Customs Officer awaits with his armed escort. He taps on his datapad and looks at the elder human. "Captain Aykur Cortain, I presume?"

"That's right."

"I am Lieutenant Dakron Skine. Your landing permit and manifests seem to be in order." he gestures at the group assembling behind the Captain. "I take it these are your passengers."

Aykur nods.

"Well, as you are all new to Derilyn, let me familiarize you with certain rules and regulations."

The Lieutenant proceeds to rattle off the following regulations in a precise manner as if he's rattled them off many times before.

Derilyn_Martial_Law.jpg

He eyes the Captain's blaster. "You're lucky the Navy boys in orbit were too busy for the inspection. They'd have confiscated your weapons right away. As it is, I'm feeling generous. You may stow your weapons aboard your ship, but they are not permitted outside of it. Are we clear?" The young officer pauses and looks each member of the group in the eye. Taking an espeically long gaze at Tosh and Thuag. Behind him, the Army Troopers release the safeties on their weapons and there's an ominous whine as the pre-firing chambers of their blasters heat up.

Ral only partly pays attention about half way through Skine's rambling of the overly oppressive laws, his tail lightly swooshes as he thinks.

'Wow, and I though the Zidth were strict. at least there you got beat up as a warning and not just thrown in to a worse position. Well at least the Lt. Skine might be useful as a source if properly' Ral's brought back by the priming of blaster cambers 'What!' he starts to get defensive, but then remembers the jist of what's going on and gets back into a relaxed posture. 'I guess the real adventure begins now...'
