The Protectorate Files

7 posts in this topic

Hello, this is my first time on the forums. I am a long-time fan of the D6 system, and I thought I would share some details of a recent supers game set in England in the 60s/70s.

The (brief) background...

PCs are well known British supers usually operating in and around London and affiliated to the well known super team, The Protectorate, currently working out of a converted warehouse in docklands.

They liaise regularly with Major Dawson of DICE (the Directorate for Intelligence and Counter Espionage) (fans of Golden Heroes will recognise this).

The characters

A neanderthal found frozen in ice, making his way in modern London. Dresses in bespoke pinstripe suit, bowler hat and carries an umbrella. He is extraordinarily strong and resistant to damage.

Mr Fin, a powerful telekinetic and generator of force fields, who wears an all in one head mask with built in goggles and a "fin" sticking up from the top of his head.

The supersoldier. Unpowered but highly trained and with a mean streak.

(stats will follow as soon as I can lay my hands on them!)

File One - Beware Hitler's Brain!

Several scientists have recently gone missing, and the police are apparently baffled

The PCs are visited by Major Dawson of DICE (the Directorate for Intelligence and Counter Espionage) accompanied by two of his men

The Major provides a list of those currently missing

Dr Robert Higgins (Robotics)

Professor Priya Patel (Cybernetics)

Dr Marcus Nash (Neurologist)

Although the Major does not have access to this information, The Protectorate’s files have details of a previous case involving the missing scientists:

Case File - the Cybernaughts.

A number of mysterious attacks turned out to be down to a powerful robotic figure. Captured, it was found to contain a human brain, under the influence of the high-tech simian villain, Evil Dr Ape.

The missing scientists, together with Dr Sarah Jackman (Bionics) helped to place the brain in a new, more human body, so he could lead a (relatively) normal life (under the alias of Robert Random).

The story was never made public (or reported to DICE). The file contains details of Dr Jackman’s address.

At Dr Jackman’s

The place has been ransacked, and Dr Jackman is being dragged to the roof by notorious tough for hire, Anna Bolick.

Thanks - now read on!

The Helijet carried the insignia of FT Enterprises - a mid-sized international organisation specialising in high-tech

Investigating FT enterprises:

All seems OK, except that one member of staff, John Hutton, has not returned from leave, and has been AWOL for 3 weeks.

Investigation of his workstation reveals a map of Scotland with a ring drawn around an island in the middle of an isolated loch - Loch Dorn.

The company accounts show large amounts of money being diverted to a “research facility” located in Castle Dorn, on a remote island in Scotland, all vired to a project known as “Operation Pheonix”. A lot seems to have been spent on “security”

Before giving any more away - a quick account of how the scenario played.

We decided to play it like an episode of a TV show - all in one session, and with no tricky clues or anything.

The players managed to get to Jackman's lab while Anna was still there.

The lab is on the top floor of the building and the pcs made their way up by several routes - leaping (Josef K), telekinesis (Mr Fin) and the stairs (Agent Zero. A nice drawn out fight ensued showcasing everyone's powers, culminating with the helijet escaping and Anna plunging down the side of the building, through the pavement and into the sewers, where she made good her escape.

Undaunted, after a few quips, the pcs headed off to the Headquarters of FT enterprises. Here they embarrassed themselves at reception, clobbering the security man before gaining entrance (and leaving Major Dawson to pour oil over troubled waters...)

They managed to locate Castle Dorn and make their way there - glossed over, with the story fading back in as they stand outside their car surveying the castle through binoculars. They are dressed in different clothes - Josef K in tweed hunting gear, including plus fours and stout shoes, and Agent Zero in camouflage fatigues....

They easily take out the goons and beat off some of the supermercenaries before comandeering a helicopter and heading for the castle. I draw a veil over their arrival (slamming the helicopter into the roof and causing an explosion). Suffice it to say that they fight their way into the castle before encountering its dreadful secret - a battle robot fitted with Hitler's Brain!

The climactic battle ensues with the main villains setting the self-destruct device before escaping via submarine.

In true classic style the heroes just manage to escape with the captive scientists before the castle erupts in a gout of flame, burying the defeated Hitlerbot (and Hitler's brain) forever in the ruins.....

Next episode - The Return of the Cybernaughts.

Why are well known people from the business community being murdered? And who has the strength to break a man's neck with a single blow?

Ahhh…Hitler’s Brain

It’s a beautiful thing. It brings a tear to my eye

I seem to remember this as an episode from the old English TV series "The Avengers" from my youth. I seem to remember the main villain accidently machine gunning der Fuhrer's brain tank...

The cybernaughts are from the same show, and I also remember a car with a mounted laser beam, a man dressed as a comic character with clawed gloves and boots that allowed him to walk upside down on the ceiling, drugged milk, a house with rooms that moved around, a Jack the Ripper clone (called The Gaslight Ghoul), a man-eating plant from outer space, an assassination attempt on a powerful computer etc etc.

Spy-fi at its best

Can't wait to do the next one...
