Hi all.

I'm from Norway and have been gaming nearly 25 years. I'm an old fan of Torg, but I havent played it in almost 20 years. I used to be a player in a wild and crazy campaign back in the 90s. For me Torg was what I like to call a paradigmatic game: it changed the way I game and has influenced me ever since. And it is probably one of two, three games that has this status for me. Torg brought a focus on wild, cinematic stunts. Being cool outweigthing firepower every time. Sure the Jaz fighter-turned decker-turned miracle worker-turned mage outgunned my rocketeer (gadget hero with rocket pack) every time, but it was I who dogfighted the nile fighterplanes and shot the pilots with my .38 through the canopy, it was I who disconnected in 1000 kmh, 10 meters over the ocean surface and had to roll that tense reconnection check. The same goes for my Tharkold transformed Larendi Chieftain (yes I love flying characters :)). Sure the monitor outgunned him every time, but it was I who shredded the techno demon with my cyber claws in the air above downtown LA.

Good times!

But now, all of the sudden, I've gotten an urge to run Torg. No idea why, the game just fires my imagination at the moment. This has led to a reading binge, and I must say the game both delights me and surprises me. I'm delighted by the fact that it is still the game I remember. High octane action, cool templates, fun powers, endless possibilities. But I'm also surprised at how serious the game is and how solid the underlying cosmology actually is. I think it dawned on me how bleak the setting actually is when I read about the creation of gospogs and the process of invasion. I've been toying with the idea of running the invasion of Norway from the moment the brigde hits Oslo, and I started thinking about how incredibly brutal the initial invasion would be. It is easy to think that it is just the arrival of elves, dwarves, trolls and dragons and stuff. But there would have to be many hundreds of thousands of invaders needed to stabilize the realm borders, and their first priority would probably be to slaughter as many as possible to sow the gospog fields. This is bleakness on the same scale as Stalingrad or the Somne. Back in the days I think we actually ran Nile Empire everywhere: fun, pulp action. But now I realise that Torg is actually much more serious than this (or at least can be), and for me, twenty years later, this is a good thing. So the plan is still to run the invasion. Fortunately I'm one of the few who likes Aysle. I just like to emphasise vikings, trolls and giants more than knights, wizards and dragons. More dark age heroics than chivalric romance. But that is easily done.

But since it is so many years since I've played Torg, I've probably forgotten some of the more problematic sides of the rules. What will I need to watch out for? What is broken and must be kept out of player hands at all costs? All players will start out as core earth characters, but will get the option to have their character be transformed as part of the invasion if they like.

Hey there, guys! So, I'm thinking of condensing Reflexes and Coordination into a single Attribute, Agility, and then I'd create a different Attribute, Combat, and move most combat skills (Archery, Melee Combat, Thrown Weapons, Unarmed Combat - basically, all of them except Dodge) to this new Attribute. Do you guys think that would work well, in general terms?

Many game systems tout a point-based method for attributes as making the players no longer a "slave to the dice". My players, however, love challenges and enjoy trying to work with whatever crap Fate hands them. Basically, they prefer ro roll dice and see what their attributes come up as. For example, in D&D one guy wanted a great fighter but came up with STR on the low end of exceptional, a 13. As it was Old School, there was no adjusting it when he levelled up, so he played it as though his PC only thought he was a fantastic warrior, but reality told a different story! This is probably their biggest complaint about D6. Assigning the skills is fine, but they have asked about ways to roll for attributes. All I have come up with is to roll 1D6-1 for each attribute, with a minimum of 1D. It would be the player's choice to assign them in order or as they like. Extranormal abilities, however, would require a certain attribute to have at least 3D in it. (I haven't decided which attribute yet. We play mostly D6 Fantasy and Star Wars.) Does anybody have any better ideas?

I know there is the danger, however slim, of someone getting all 5s or all 1s, but c'est la vie, y'know.

My players tonight were looking for a pack animal to carry supplies while crossing the American SW on Gaea. The only prices I could find were Horse (150r/$1500) and Camel (250r/$2500). While Aysle has Horses in the Transportation section of the Equipment chapter, they aren't priced, and I can't recall any other book with prices for animals. Even KLV, which has the stats for Horses, lacks a cost.
Is there any prices for animals in any other books? I ended up allowing them a Mule/Burro for 50 Sterlings ($250).

This is an excerpt from Blue Max Studio's The Pumpkin-Suit's Manual: Easy Rules for Hard Science Fiction:

Decompression
At the opposite end of the spectrum is when damage to a spacecraft is so severe that the habitat loses pressure. Explosive decompression, while not as severe as the term suggests, is still a time-critical evolution that ends in either a successful repair of the hull, or death for any astronauts unlucky to be trapped inside the breached compartment.
Description: “It's the worst feeling in the world – the gentle breeze of vital atmosphere bleeding away out of the punctured hull. You immediately grab for a DC kit; hoping to get a mask over your mouth in time to find the leak and repair it. As the door behind you automatically shuts against the loss in pressure, your frantic search becomes a race against time, with death the prize for second place.”
 Decompression (Hazard)
	Classic D6:
Skill: Space Transport Repair
Effected System: Hull
Detection Difficulty: Moderate
Special: Please refer to Appendix II and the rules dealing with decompression as spacecraft damage for more information.
Characters do not suffer damage until the pressure in a breached compartment reaches half it's starting pressure.
At one-half pressure, Characters must Make a Stamina Skill Check for every round they are without supplemental air in a decompressing compartment. The Difficulty is Moderate, increasing +1 every round thereafter until the compartment is completely depressurized.
If the Character fails one of these Stamina Checks, they suffer 1D damage every round until they receive oxygen or die.

Hey there. Sorry to have not posted anything in the way of an update in some time. I breeze through here when I can, but time is definitely not on my side lately. No excuses though, just kick me in the rear and shout, "GET ON WITH IT!"

Okay, so I've been doing some tidying up with the writing in the Tales of War. Grimace has helped me a lot with the editing, and has been great at goading me whenever I stray too far from the gate. I've been finding new weapons/gear that I felt needed to be included, so the page count has been increasing. As long as the real life bug doesn't bite me too much in the near future, this issue will be finished soon-ish.

Sorry again for the delays! See you real soon!

I'm working up a maptool framework for D6 play and have started on the macros in earnest. One of the things I'd like to automatically track for my players (and NPCs) is their current Multi-Action Penalty. I'm planning to set a property containing the current MAP and set it to zero at their initiative slot. I'll also need to add deliberate-multi-action macros, automatically increment the MAP within the die roller, things like that.

To display it on the token, I'm thinking I'll go with a bar. I can increment that bar to represent the MAP changes, and refer to it as a sort of 'fatigue' within the turn. One big issue with this approach, though - how long should I make that bar?

I'm picturing maybe eight little rectangles, filling from left to right? Is eight too many? Maybe six?

With Issue #4 out now - I'm turning my attention to Issue #5 of D6 Magazine. Jeremy and myself discussed content and strategies for this next issue and I'm looking to really push the boundaries of our skills and abilities... the theme of Issue #5 is: Sci-Fi & Space Opera. If you have any ideas or would like to contribute, I gladly welcome your input.

brettski@wickednorthgames.com

So far, here is what I have lined up:
• An interview (and artwork) featuring Michael Vilardi
• Original content from Peter Schweighofer which will also feature the illustration talent of Michael Vilardi (both of WEG fame...)
• A preview of Westward
• ... and More!

Right now I'm getting things lined up, and I'll be looking for critiques too of its layout and design. Please let me know your thoughts, and thank you for all of the help and support!
