My group plans to make an outing of it tomorrow night in place of our normal gaming. Even going to the fancy upgrade seats in the "Director's Section" a local cinema. Anyone else planning to head out to see it?

I have tickets for this evening in IMAX.

I forgot about it. Tonight after work I'll have to see who's all going and when they want to go. They always depend on me to organize these things. We will probably see a matinee tomorrow. If not IMAX, then digital projection for sure.
I used to have the trade paperback but sold it along time ago when I was hard up for cash. :(

I saw it last night. It was awesome. Writing some sort of a review right now.

Sadly, a trip to the theater is not a luxury I can afford right now.

Saw it last night.
I think it holds up well enough under scrutiny.
There are moments when all I could do was cringe due to the changes but they are survivable.

Happy to hear about the overall positive of it and am looking forward to it.
And I am going to go out on a limb now and declare this to be the top movie at the box office this weekend. ;)

I'm seeing it Saturday 1:30 eastern, in digital projection. I hear the effects are amazing.

I saw it last night in IMAX. A good movie over all. Reasonably true to the graphic novel. It captured most of the nuance well and feel my $16 was spent very well. It didn't leave me with dropped jaw like tDK, but I'll happily pick it up on Blueray when it comes out.

Just came back from it. Not quite as much action as I hoped, but still a very well-made and intelligent movie. I don't think I'm going to need to own this on Blu-ray or DVD, but it was worth watching once in the theater for sure.

Saw it last night. A good, solid movie. I quite liked it and having never read the comics, I think it does well all on its own. My only fear is that it makes a huge profit and Warner Brothers drives for a sequel, the one thing this movie doesn't need.

I've heard that the film makers have said they don't feel there is anywhere to go with a sequel.

Oh, and I also wanted to say that I used to collect Doctor Manhattan and Nite Owl... I mean Captain Atom and Blue Beetle comics. It was interesting to see the Watchmen versions of those characters and the Blue Beetle's vehicle on the big screen.

I would agree with this, but I have no faith in Warner Brothers not wanting to try to milk a cash cow twice.

Which would, very quickly, earn the ire of the comic fan community. While the comic fan community is not large enough to make or break a comic movie by itself, it is an important demographic to get supporting a coming movie, simply because they are vocal. If you comic movie is not supported by the comic community, it will fail MISERABLY and I think that movie studios are smart enough to know that.

I thought the movie was great. I really like the graphic novel and I felt the adaptation was excellent. I think the changes worked quite well, and I don't mind that it doesn't match the novel 100%. I find it interesting that they replaced the threat of alien invasion with the threat of Dr Manhattan. For a modern movie audience that probably worked better.
It would be really hard to imagine a sequel. I wonder if there could be enough unused material in the comic book to make a prequel of sorts though, perhaps focusing on the Minute Men? Watchmen works quite well as a stand-alone movie though. I would rather like to see them look for more of Alan Moore's work; say Swamp Thing.
