Masterbook damage

I see in the Masterbook rules that a weapon like a knife does STR+3 damage

but then I see in the World of Aden book, weapons that do

STR +3/24

what does the number after the / mean? Is that maximum damage?

Yes, it's the max weapon value, mostly a concern only when characters have STR ratings greater than 13.
