Because template creation can be fun.
Can't it?

To throw in another angle to this thread. Which templates need redoing?

Are you looking to totally re-do the data collected, simply change the layout and formatting or both ?

Mostly, I think enlarging the choices guarantees quicker game play in that template selection can obviate the need for on the spot character creation.
Certain Cosms also got more "lovin'" as far as starting templates are concerned.
Not the amount in the book, but rather the amount in the book NOT from or transformed to Core Earth -- glaringly seen in Living Land book where the total number of Takta Ker/Living Land templates is about 25% of the total when every other book offers about 75% to 90+% templates based from the Cosm/realm itself.
Right there is a hole needing filled.
How many different -- or different seeming -- Edeinos/Stalengers can people dream up on the fly?
So sitting back in a relaxed environment and attempting to fill that void would seem to be a good project.
But there is more that just the dearth of Takta Ker templates.

It's also very helpful in showing players what characters should look like for when they do get around to building characters themselves. The last time I tried running Torg I let a bunch of people who had never played before design their own characters. Even with lots of guidelines and my assurance that an attribute of 5 was a very bad idea, I still ended up with a group made up of mostly unviable PCs. After that experience I decided that new players would always use templates for chargen!
So two years ago when I last had the time and energy to work on new game material, one of the first things I started on was new templates. It proved to be a lot more work than I expected and I only got a few done before something came up and took me away from working on it any further. I'll look around and see if I can find any that might be usable by others (the ones I finished were for my revised pirate-based Aysle so may be of limited use in the regular Aysle setting.)

Perhaps even a rundown of your "pirate themed" Aysle might be useful.
1st up is that it would allow one to extract Aysle from the British Isles and place it somewhere less congested -- like the Caribbean.
Maybe bump the tech to 16 and have a lot more naval themed magic perhaps?
Now I wish you'd present your idea in some thread as it could be fun (and USEFUL) to see another take on Aysle.
