Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here we go:

So I'm working on a setting for a Fantasy 1970s. I'm still playing with the specifics, but I know it's kind of a '70s Shadowrun minus the cyberpunk elements. I'm not sure if I'm planning to have magic and such suddenly returned or existed along side humanity all along.

I'm leaning towards Magic and such having returned sometime in the late 1950s. Adding to some of the chaos in the 1960s with the protests and such. By the 1970s things will have settled down. I plan on having Elves, Dwarfs, Orcs and Gnomes being common returned fantasy races with a few others being less common.

And part of this is because I want to use this in the game:

Not sure if magic is going to be common knowledge or secret. I do know that fantasy creatures (like dragons, minotaurs and things of that nature) will be bleed over from the other side from times.

I know it's a strange setting and I know a lot of people will think it's stupid, but I want to get the other peoples opinions. The ones who think it's weird, but interesting. Give me your thoughts and opinions.

Ah yes, the gnoll pimp! Seemingly the one part of d20 Modern that people liked.

Borrowing from GURPS Technomancer, you could have magic return to the world when nuclear bomb tests in the 40s and 50s tear open holes in reality. And then like Shadowrun the influx of magical energies is responsible for the rebirth/return of nonhuman races like the gnolls.

Disco is the gateway to Hell.

No, really.

People dancing around in ritualistic fashion with music and a funny lights show. (Oh, and don't forget the drugs). One of those nights partying at Studio 54 is bound to magically open a gateway to somewhere... it might as well be Hell.

AWWWWW, FREAK OUT!!!

Thanks for the comments. It's an interesting idea and I'm often struck by these odd ideas. The problem for me is going from vague idea to full setting.

So sometimes I just toss stuff at the wall (or internet as the case may be) and see what sticks.
