Im a huge True20 fan, As well as M&M. But one thing that always bothered me with using a d20 was how random the rolls are. 3 one roll and an 18 the next. Iv always loved the bell curve. Its one thing that attracted me back to d6. And discourages me from single die mechanic systems.
In my true20 games and most other games that use a d20 I often substitute 2d10 or 3d6.
I cant imagine 2d10 being to much different. While 3d6 almost always takes a bit more fudging to get to work. Does any one do this with torg?

I kind of see the bell curve being in the bonus chart, actually. It seems like they engineered it to be cinematic, but not too outlandishly silly.
I've never gotten along with the bonus chart, I know most people memorize it, but I've never been gifted in that regard. I did look at an alternate rolling method that did away with the bonus chart, but it just wouldn't work for Torg. I've pretty much shelved it for some future game project yet undertaken:
You roll two D10's, one positive, one negative, subtracting one from the other, and rolling the positive die again on tens. Just like Torg, it is open-ended and the median bonus is at 0, but alleviates the bonus chart.
I've never bothered to work out the probability of it, but it seems like it would be even more cinematically random then Torg.

Torg kinda deals with that "problem" be translating the linear D20 rolling to a bonus chart that provides a logarithmic rate of return. Using 2D10 tends to flatten this bonus out a great deal making it seem less cinematic. I can only imagine a 3D6 bell curve taking this even more.

I guess that makes sense. I just always liked players of a set skill, To have rolls to represent his skill. I find "heroic" die rolls to go against that. When you have a character insanely good at some thing and rolls 4 rolls in a row less than 5 it gets wonky. then an unskilled rolls a 20 and blows away a challenge.
That is one reason I don't play savage worlds any more. All die in it can explode. And every die is its own die roll since although you roll more than one die you choose the highest one.
In one game the players got into a melee in a bar. The weapon expert drew his blade and rolled an amazing hit. But then got a 1 for damage. The dwarf priest in the group jumped on his bar stool and hit a guy on the head with his mug of ale. He rolled 2 6s. so he rolled them again. and again one was a 6. this went on 5 times. we make jokes to this day about a mushroom cloud and the guys head exploding.
Id like to say this was rare. but it wasn't an unskilled pencil to the eye took out one of my major villeins in a monster hunting game.
And my brothers scout who never rolled higher than a 4 on perception during a true20 Freeport game, before I switched to 2d10 for that game.
So I guess its just that for me "heroic" rolls have left a very bad taste in my mouth. And I avoid them if I can.
Its actually one reason I looked to d6, I wanted to move most my games I was running in savage worlds to it. Because I wanted the bell curve.
I've hinted to my players The Idea of TORG in the future. And was just wondering if any one had tried another method. Maybe I should just make myself a TORG to D6 conversion. And see how it goes.

Sorry, Hope no one thinks Im Talking down about TORG or "heroic" rolls In general, Or even savage worlds. I just wanted to explain my own personal hang up and Give my reason why.
While this is clearly a matter of personal taste I just thought it would be esier to explain if I gave it in examples.
Please dont take my remarks or questioning the d20 roll as a slant or backhanded comment about TORG or a TORG mechanic. I just find that a simple die roll option lets me custom to taste with out doing converting or changing of rules.
